Round One
begins in the first of September and
continues through October. During this round
we see the end of the active growing season
for our Bermuda and Zoysia lawns and the
beginning of the Fescue growing season. If
you have a Fescue lawn or would like to look
at Fescue seeding, please contact our
office. (Fescue is the grass that will grow
in the shade and cover those bare ground
areas under your trees.)
Round one includes
our fall pre-emerge and is one of the most
important applications of the year. This
pre-emerge is the weed prevention measure
that will carry us through the winter and
early spring months. It is critical that
this application be watered in prior to
mowing to allow the pre-emerge to be
incorporated into the soil. We will also
begin to fertilize our Fescue lawns as well
as control weeds in them that we are not
able to treat for during the hot summer
months.
One of the biggest challenges faced by our
lawns during this season has been grub
infestations. At this time of year grubs are
growing and eating voraciously and continue
to damage many lawns in the mid-south. As
the grubs feed they will cause thinning of
the turf, poor color and bare spots in lawns
as well as causing severe damage to the root
system. This damage in the Fall of the year
will create major problems for the lawns
next spring. If you have any questions or
think you may have a grub infestation,
please call our office...we will be right
out! |
